Why did you decide to do photography? And why on your own?

Photography was a hobby. I wanted to open my own restaurant, but after working for years in other restaurants, I realized it wasn’t for me. Photography became my backup plan. I’m so glad my life went this direction.

What was one of your favorite projects? Why?

I had a long-term client that allowed me to create. They gave me very little direction. They trusted me to give them something great. That freedom was amazing. I miss working with them.

Where is your dream place to shoot? Why?

Angkor Wat I love how time has changed it, but still it remains. The mix of man-made and organic is breathtaking.

Who do you admire?

I’m a huge fan of old school portraits. Yousuf Karsh was the master.

Describe your style in 3 words.

Ever evolving journey

What’s your go-to K&J product? Why?

I love the kraft paper print sleeves. I was hooked the minute I discovered them at K&J.

What are tricks you use to manage the business and marketing side of your business?

Creating systems is key. I always try to find ways to automate my workflow. Seemingly little tricks add up. My favorite to this day is using the buttons on my Wacom tablet to make selects from a shoot. One button advances to the next image. Another gives it a star rating. I can crank through hundreds of images in no time at all.

What do you collect?

Old film cameras, watches, antique kitchen gear

What is your favorite thing about where you live?

Cherry blossoms. Each spring I find myself in the land of pink snow. It is magical.

What would people find most surprising about you?

I have a knack for remembering really odd bits of information and trivia. It is equally helpful and embarrassing.

What’s your favorite piece of gear or tech that helps you do your job best?

My Wacom tablet.

What is your favorite physical place to go for inspiration?

I love driving through the woods. It calms and inspires.

What is your favorite podcast, TV show, or book about creative business?

Best Business Practices for Photographers by John Harrington

Who is your favorite influencer, blogger, author? Why?

Parker Pfister He sees the world with new eyes.

What is your favorite thing about your everyday?

I have a love/hate relationship with my commute. I have about an hour each way that allows me to listen to podcasts or loud music with the windows down when the weather is nice.
